Kawaguchi Fireworks Festival 2026 — the English viewer's guide
Kawaguchi is the Tokyo area's friendly local option: a young festival (6th edition) on the Arakawa river where the launch site sits inside the park itself, so the shells feel close enough to touch. It is also one of the few shows this autumn that still runs an official free area. Here is how it works.
| Event | 6th Kawaguchi Fireworks Festival — an anniversary edition marking 90 years of the Kawaguchi Chamber of Commerce & Industry |
|---|---|
| Date | Saturday, November 14, 2026 |
| Time | Gates 15:30; fireworks 18:00–19:00 JST |
| Venue | Kawaguchi City Arakawa Sports Park, on the Arakawa River, Kawaguchi City, Saitama |
| Scale | 11,100 shells, launched from inside the park grounds |
| Free viewing | Yes — an official free area on the embankment slope (sheet-laying from 12:00; entry may be controlled when full) |
| If weather turns | Light rain OK; strong wind/severe weather cancels, no postponement. Decisions at 8:00, 12:00 and 15:00 on the day |
| Nearest stations | JR Kawaguchi Station (West Exit), ~15 min walk; Kawaguchi-Motogo (Saitama Rapid Railway), ~20 min walk |
A local show with front-row physics
Big-name festivals put the launch barges far out on the water. Kawaguchi fires from a pond-side point inside Arakawa Sports Park itself, which compresses the distance between you and the shells in a way money rarely buys elsewhere. The festival is run by the local chamber of commerce — this year is its 90th anniversary edition — and the atmosphere matches: about 50 food stalls inside the venue and kitchen cars outside, families on picnic sheets, and a city that treats the night as its own. For a visitor based in Tokyo, it is arguably the easiest "real local fireworks" experience of the autumn: one train, a 15-minute walk, done.
Tickets & the free area
Paid areas (garden-chair table area, embankment sheet area, wheelchair spaces) are sold via CN Play Guide — web, FamilyMart in-store terminals, or phone. The official site states sales continue until 17:00 on the event day, and no sell-out has been announced on the official pages.
Free area: an official free zone is set on the embankment slope west of the Ukima Golf Gate. You may lay a sheet from 12:00 on the day; if it fills, entry gets controlled (in 2025, from about 17:30). Arrive in the afternoon if the free area is your plan — and bring something warm to sit on.

Message me on Ko-fiGetting there — and getting home
- JR Kawaguchi Station (Keihin-Tohoku Line), West Exit — about 15 minutes on foot. Kawaguchi is roughly 15 minutes by train from Ueno/Tabata side of Tokyo.
- Kawaguchi-Motogo Station (Saitama Rapid Railway) — about 20 minutes on foot.
- No venue parking, and traffic restrictions run around the venue 14:00–21:00 — come by train.
- Going home: the show ends at 19:00; the walk back to Kawaguchi Station is a river of people for the first half hour. A slow coffee in the park beats fighting the first wave.
- Weather checks are announced on the official website at 8:00, 12:00 and 15:00 on the day.
What to bring
- A ground sheet — essential for the free embankment area and sheet seating.
- Warm layers — mid-November on an open riverbank.
- A compact raincoat — light rain does not stop this show.
- Cash for the stalls — about 50 inside the venue.
