Chengdu Panda Base tickets — book the morning, thank yourself later
At the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, the ticket you want is not just any ticket — it is the morning session, when the pandas are fed, active and playing. By afternoon, especially in warm weather, the base is largely a collection of sleeping pandas. Booking opens up to 14 days ahead, real-name against your passport. Here is how to get the session that matters.

|---|---|
| Booking window | Real-name reservation opens up to 14 days ahead — book as early as your plans allow |
| Sessions | Morning and afternoon entry slots; morning entry starts 07:30 (Mar–Oct) or 08:00 (Nov–Feb) |
| Documents | Original passport used for the booking, for every visitor |
| Entry | Scan / show your passport at the gate for your booked session |
The morning session is the prize: pandas are fed and active early, then sleep through the heat of the day. On weekends and holidays, morning slots sell out days ahead; in Golden Week, they can go as soon as the booking window opens. Book the morning slot the moment your date becomes available, and plan the rest of your Chengdu day around it.
- In WeChat, search for the Panda Base's official mini-program (or book via the official website / an authorised platform such as Trip.com if you prefer English checkout).
- Choose your date and the MORNING session.
- Add each visitor with the name and passport number exactly as printed in the passport.
- Pay (WeChat Pay is the default in the mini-program).
- Arrive at opening time. From central Chengdu: Metro Line 3 to Panda Avenue station, then the shuttle bus — or a taxi/DiDi, about 30–45 minutes.
Pitfalls
- Sleeping pandas. An afternoon ticket on a hot day often means a base full of sleeping pandas. The early alarm is the whole point of this sight.
- Walking up. On-site availability is not guaranteed — treat this as online-only and book ahead, especially in holidays.
- Two panda bases. This is the Chengdu Research Base in the city — not the Dujiangyan Panda Valley about an hour away. Different places, different tickets.
- Big site. Head to the nursery and the young panda enclosures first, then work outwards.

Is the afternoon session ever worth it?
In cool weather, yes — pandas stir again towards closing time, and crowds thin out. In summer heat, an afternoon visit is a gamble on sleeping pandas. If pandas are the point of your Chengdu stop, take the morning.
I don't have WeChat. How do I book?
Use an authorised platform such as Trip.com, which lists the Panda Base with English checkout. The official route is the WeChat mini-program — if you will be booking several Chinese sights, setting up WeChat and WeChat Pay before the trip pays off repeatedly.
How long do I need inside?
Half a day is the sweet spot: arrive at opening, see the nursery and young pandas first while they are active, then loop the rest of the base. Most visitors are done by early afternoon.
